The Club Title took on some extra meaning at the 2021 National Championships this year. There was a sense of team unity among many of the clubs present. Club tents and flags were out in force with heaps of support from teammates across the seven days.
We received multiple messages and emails to make sure everyone was surfing for the correct club – such was the desire for clubs to claim the title.
Gisborne Boardriders Club came out on top in a close battle, only separated by one or two results from their closest rivals – Point Boardriders of Raglan, hosts Lion Rock Boardriders and Bay Boardriders of Mount Maunganui.
Gisborne’s performance hinged on the title of Saffi Vette in the Open Women’s Division which was backed up by brother Finn in the Under 18 Boys Division, John Gisby in the Seniors (Over 60s) and Daniel Procter in the Lonbgboard. The club had a total of seven titles across their participating members.
