Surfing New Zealand proudly delivers the International Surfing Association (ISA) Judging Seminar — a valuable resource for club officials, competitive surfers, and anyone involved in the sport who wants to better understand how competitions are scored.
Led by Lee Ryan, Surfing New Zealand’s Head Judge and internationally accredited WSL/ISA judge, this seminar provides an official pathway for judges to officiate both domestically and globally.
What the Course Covers
This full-day seminar offers an intensive classroom-based learning experience, guiding participants through all key areas of ISA judging criteria:
- Competition rules
- Judges’ responsibilities
- Interference rules
- General judging insights and procedures
Lunch is provided for all participants.
Who Should Attend?
Participants must have a solid understanding of surfing. This course is ideal for:
- Individuals interested in becoming accredited ISA judges
- Surfers looking to better understand judging to improve their performance
- Club officials who want to strengthen event management and judging within their local community
What You’ll Gain
Upon successful completion, participants will receive:
- ISA Level One Judging Accreditation
- Eligibility to judge at Surfing New Zealand and ISA-sanctioned competitions
- A greater understanding of competitive scoring — both as a judge and a competitor
Cost
- Adults: $250
- Under 18s: $150
Cost includes all course materials and 12 months of ISA judges’ registration.
