Surfing New Zealand has commenced the board appointments process for 2024. There are two positions open for appointment.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Surfing New Zealand’s areas of focus are Participation and Community, Events, High Performance and Partnerships and Funding. These four work areas are underpinned by being a commercially sustainable, socially and environmentally responsible organisation.
The Board’s priorities include delivering on the strategic plan, strengthening the sport’s financial position, setting high-level policies, bringing international surfing back to New Zealand, improving athlete pathways and strengthening our boardrider club network.
Surfing New Zealand is responsible for a robust nationwide event programme, managing representative teams including our Olympic athletes, high performance pathways, education of coaches & officials and community wellbeing initiatives such as Wave Warriors Learn to Surf and Surfers rescue 24/7. At our core, we love surfing.
The organisation is governed by a board of eight directors, made up of four elected and four appointed board members. This process seeks to engage two appointed members.
The incumbent appointed board member (male) is re-standing for this position. The vacant board position is to be filled by a female to meet the Sport NZ requirements of 40% female representation on the board.

The role is open to individuals living throughout Aotearoa.
Time commitment and term
As a guide, we expect an average time commitment of 4-6 hours each month. Board meetings are typically held ten times per year online and one to two times in person (Auckland/Christchurch). Subcommittee work is also required.
The role will start in November 2024 at the annual general meeting (Saturday 23rd November).
Remuneration
The role is unpaid. Travel and expenses for in-person board meetings will be reimbursed.
Interviews with shortlisted candidates will be held online in early September.
