Program Overview

Surfers Rescue 24/7 equips everyday surfers with essential skills that could save lives in emergency situations. This quick, focused training empowers surfers to act confidently and safely when seconds count.
What is Surfers Rescue 24/7?
Surfers Rescue 24/7 is a 2-hour course delivered at boardriders clubs and Surf Lifesaving clubs around New Zealand. It teaches practical water rescue techniques and basic CPR skills tailored for surfers of all experience levels.
Why Take This Course?
Surfers spend hours in the water year-round and are often the first to respond when emergencies happen at beaches and waterways. Surf Life Saving Australia reports that over 60% of ocean rescues are performed by recreational surfers.
With New Zealand’s vast coastline—over 15,000 kilometers—and more than 90% of beaches unpatrolled, trained surfers are a vital safety resource beyond the flagged areas.
How to Sign Up
Courses are regularly held through local boardriders clubs and during Surf Instructor training sessions nationwide.
Cost
Most courses request a koha (donation) of $20, but some are free. Regardless of cost, all participants must register online before attending so certificates can be issued.
Courses have a maximum of 20 participants to ensure quality training.
