  • Surfing New Zealand is the official National Sporting Organisation promoting the sport of surfing in New Zealand.
  • Quipmo – Equipment for the Moment! – launched in Perth in Feb 2017 – is the surf, bike and snow peer to peer gear rental marketplace for like-minded travellers and locals who share a passion for adventure!
  • Connecting people with great gear for adventures just became a whole lot easier!

Surfing New Zealand and Quipmo have announced a partnership that will provide more access to New Zealand waters for those travelling without their own equipment.

For those looking for an adventure whether travelling abroad, away on business or maybe just wanting to try something new, Quipmo gives you choice right at your fingertips via their digital platform.

Flipping the coin, Quipmo enables gear owners the opportunity to lease out gear that they already have. Whether that’s a surf shop who are keen to lease out second-hand boards sitting in the shop or a family who have a few boards in the shed – Quipmo enables people to make a few bucks off their idle gear whilst also making someone else’s day too. Quipmo makes adventure easy.

“We are always about making access to surfing easier for everyone and Quipmo allows those travelling without their gear that option.  We look forward to working with Quipmo and the New Zealand surfing community to make gear readily accessible” said Ben Kennings, General Manager of Surfing New Zealand.

Quipmo’s founder and CEO Chris Evans said: “We are truly stoked to be partnering with Surfing New Zealand! Working with a top tier organisation who are highly innovative and who genuinely care about the surfing community is massively exciting for us. Values count and we believe that this partnership has the potential to bring the whole community together through the share economy and surfing.”

Over 300,000 New Zealanders give surfing a go annually.  Paddleboarding barely existed a decade ago, now makes up more than 15 percent of the surfing community.  Figures show that 3.8m tourists visited New Zealand in the year to March.  The potential for Quipmo to substantially alter the surf tourism landscape in NZ is significant.

Whether it’s a local surf shop looking for new customers or someone with boards in their shed, anyone can now service the New Zealand tourism market. This initiative is not simply for the most dedicated of surfers but is aimed at the mainstream and offers another string to the bow of New Zealand’s world-class tourism industry.
